Winter 2011 Staff Picks

2011 is here and so is a fresh batch of offerings that we’re eager to share! From products displaying new-to-Pomegranate artists, such as Chuck Close and Irene Hardwicke Olivieri, to the premiere of our block puzzles, read what we’re excited about in the Winter 2011 release.

I love the Irene Hardwicke Olivieri Notecard Folio (0946), because there is so much to look at in her paintings. If you have an affinity for nature and art, she's an artist worth learning more about (and the notecard set is the perfect way to start). —Stephanie, design

I’m already a huge fan of Pomegranate’s gift wrap; the feel of the weight of the paper, the grid on the back for ease of cutting, and the beautiful designs make the gift-giving all the more enjoyable and significant. Our new designs are all stunning, but I’m especially fond of the Lois Mailou Jones Designer Gift Wrap (GW036); I love the reds, oranges, and greens together! —Lory, contracts & royalties

Lois Mailou Jones Designer Gift Wrap (GW036). The pattern and colors are not something you would normally find on gift wrap. If I were given a present with this paper, I would probably save it and pin it to my bulletin board just to look at. —Patrice, design

One of my new favorites is the 300-piece Sea Otter Jigsaw Puzzle (SC0405). Why? Because this is how I picture myself after winning the lottery. But seriously, a portion of the proceeds of the purchase of this product actually goes to protecting these little guys. And how can you resist that? —Monica, production

We all know something about the world’s greatest city; the 19th-Century New York Book of Postcards (AA661) is a mind-expanding yet easy way to know a whole lot more. —Paul, shipping

I really like our new PomegranateKids Fairies Jigsaw Puzzle (JK009). You can just imagine that each fairy has its own story and adventure to tell. —Tina, customer service

Picasso Book of Postcards (AA659). The greatest artist of the twentieth century is sometimes taken for granted. But John Richardson's magnificent four-volume biography has undone some of the damage done by a lousy biopic, and I never tire of Picasso's most fantastical images. —Sam, editorial

The Picasso Book of Postcards (AA659) is my current favorite, because it presents a truly comprehensive collection of this most influential and innovative artist's work. As editor of this book of postcards, I learned a lot about Picasso and I enjoyed every minute of my work. —Rachel, editorial

Chuck Close Block Puzzle (PB003). It's fun artwork, but a challenging puzzle! —Oky, design

Charley Harper’s Wings of the World 5 x 7” Notepad (NP035) has vibrant colors and a plethora of birdies to identify at your leisure between note-taking or doodling sessions. —Marshall, design

I’m recommending our Charley Harper Designer Gift Wrap (GW034 and GW035) to the self-proclaimed “bird nerds” among my friends and within my family tree. —Matthew, editorial

My new favorite Pomegranate artist! I plan on purchasing Jack Stuppin: Songs of the Earth Boxed Notecards (0405). I love the brilliant colors he uses in his artwork and know that my family and friends will love it too! —Helena, customer service

My favorites are Jack Stuppin: Songs of the Earth Boxed Notecards (0405) and Mothers Boxed Notecards (SC1050). Both make me look ahead to springtime––the vibrant colors of Jack Stuppin's work and the adorable moms and babies in the Mothers box. I couldn't just pick one! —Ronni, design

Our new block puzzles are addicting . . . and not just for kids! I especially love the Van Gogh Block Puzzle (PB001) and think it would make a fun addition to any desk or coffee table. —Stephanie, production

Christopher Dresser Designs Book of Postcards (AA675). I think his designs are great. —Darius, sales

Pomegranate gift wrap is so unique and durable. I’ll be using the new Christopher Dresser Designer Gift Wrap (GW038) with the pink flowers and purple background for spring birthday gifts and for Mother’s Day. —Delores, customer service

Christopher Dresser Textile Design 4 x 9" Notepad (NP033). The image is crazy and not something you see everywhere. —Gina, design

I’m really attracted to two PomegranateKids items—the Gustave Baumann Coloring Book (CB132) and Kathy DeZarn Beynette’s Lions Jigsaw Puzzle (JK010). I love Baumann’s sunny images of nature (especially the flowers and trees), and Beynette’s lions just make me smile. —Pat, editorial

I think that the Kawase Hasui Boxed Notecards (0413) are incredibly beautiful, the colors are so rich . . . they are one of my favorites. —Karma, customer service

I love all the images in the Kawase Hasui Boxed Notecards (0413)—so peaceful and serene. —Esther, customer service

I've become quite addicted to our jigsaw puzzles! While I've always liked puzzles in general, ours are such high quality that they're simply a pleasure to put together. Our new Joseph Stella: The Voice of the City Jigsaw Puzzle (AA666) has caught my eye, and it will most likely be the next one for my growing collection. —Judy, editorial

I really, really like the Alphonse Mucha Coloring Book (CB131). I can remember those days, like it was yesterday, laying on the floor and coloring. Daydreaming about my future. I wish this one was around when I was a little girl. The ornamental designs are so deep, lots of color, beautiful and mystical women. A real pleasure, makes me want to be a little girl again, color and play dress up with my girlfriends fantasizing about womanhood. Mucha will always have my vote! —Monica, production

There are so many treasures tucked away inside Pannini’s Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome Jigsaw Puzzle (AA664). It’s like assembling your own mini-museum! —Ellen, customer service
